As part of the Aqua North Carolina / Essential Utilities organization, you will have the opportunity to learn and/or advance the skills needed to perform the day-to-day duties associated with the repair and upgrade of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, as well as contributing to customer service issues and housekeeping at various water/wastewater facilities throughout the service territory; all while working with an industry leader and obtaining relevant certifications (starting with C Distribution and/or Collections I license)!

All training, safety equipment, tools, uniforms, boots, and company vehicle are provided.

Starting pay is $19+/hr (depending on experience & qualifications).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform semi-skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of valves, meters, gauges, pumps, and associated equipment used in water distribution systems and/or wastewater collection systems (using hand and power tools).
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance of vehicles & equipment (e.g.: trucks, digging / trenching equipment, etc.) in accordance with company procedures as well as equipment & operating standards.
  • Load and unload various equipment, chemicals, and supplies at worksites and storage areas.
  • Perform grounds keeping and custodial work, as assigned.
  • Resolve routine problems and notify management of issues outside the scope of responsibility.
  • Adhere to all safety and security operating policies, procedures, practices, and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Update and maintain documentation of work activities, including closing work orders (as needed in the system).
  • Performs other duties or special projects, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma (or GED).
  • Experience working with Mechanical, Plumbing, and/or Electrical systems is preferred (but not required).
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) must be attained within 90 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with computers and work systems (such as Microsoft Office suite).
  • Excellent written & verbal communications skills; this involves the ability to communicate effectively with customers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under-pressure.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team Player attitude with the ability to work effectively and multi-task in a team-fostered environment.

CAREER PROGRESSION (Please Note: based on current experience / licenses, you may be eligible to be hired at the following levels):

  • UT Laborer - Will be encouraged to attain a C Distribution or Collections I license.
  • UT I - Minimum license requirement of C Distribution or Collections I.
  • UT II - Must meet dual-licensing requirements, plus have either a B Distribution or a Collections II.
  • UT III - Must meet dual-licensing requirements of at least a B Distribution and a Collections II, plus an A Distribution or Collections III.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Working conditions include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
  • Company vehicle is provided
  • This position participates in a weekly on-call rotating schedule every 6 - 8 weeks. The on-call schedule requires the employee to be available nights and weekends to adequately staff a 24-hour / 7-day operation.
