Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks 1 BE/BC Pediatric Gastroenterologist to join 9 faculty and 4 advanced nurse practitioners in expanding the academic and clinical mission of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. The position is fixed term at the Associate Professor level (Please page 15 of FinalSOMAPTGuidelines2020.pdf (unc.edu)). Exceptional individuals interested in building outstanding clinical programs are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in clinical care, teaching, and academic scholarship. Diagnostic endoscopic skills are required. Interventional endoscopy skills (especially banding of esophageal varices and hemostasis) are desirable.
The selected candidate will have a special interest and training in Pediatric Hepatology. There are ample opportunities to develop clinical programs in liver disease associated with cystic fibrosis and in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, in addition to strengthening our liver transplantation program. The candidate will work closely with UNC pediatric and transplant surgery to build upon the pediatric liver transplantation program. The position will have inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. The primary outpatient practice location for the position will be in Raleigh, NC. On call responsibilities are discharged at The North Carolina Children's Hospital. Our GI team carries an average inpatient census of 6-7 complex patients with a variety of gastrointestinal, liver and pancreatic disorders. The inpatient team also sees hospital consults (about 5-7 on average per week). The on-call physician works closely with our fellows and residents. The number of on-call weeks is divided among faculty depending on percent clinical full time equivalent. A total of 6-7 weeks on call per year is anticipated for full clinical faculty. The on-call physician does not have assigned outpatient clinical time.
Our hospital yearly serves more than 70,000 children from all 100 North Carolina counties for over 200,000 visits for diagnosis and treatment. This family-focused hospital serves as the primary teaching facility for UNC pediatric residents. The pediatric inpatient service has an 88-bed capacity and 5,900 surgical and pediatric admissions each year. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has a 20 bed capacity, and the Newborn Critical Care Center has a 58-bed capacity with approximately 850 admissions yearly.
Chapel Hill and surrounding areas offer outstanding quality of life, excellent schools and beautiful scenery.
