About the Department | The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to provide NCSU faculty with optimal animal resources at the least practical cost. The term "animal resources" includes not only animal housing facilities, but also animal husbandry services, veterinary care, technical services, expertise in laboratory animal technology and medicine, and assurance of compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies for animal care and use. LAR is responsible for assisting faculty in conducting animal experimentation in keeping with these standards, and is committed to assuring the well-being of experimental animals while providing services that facilitate their humane and judicious use. |
Essential Job Duties | This position is responsible for the day to day supervision of personnel within Laboratory Animal Resources. The position reports directly to the facilities manager and will supervise up to 5 direct reporting full or part time animal care technicians. General duties include development and adherence to all unit standard operating procedures related to proper animal care of a variety of research animal species; assurance of proper personnel training in all aspects of general safety and proper animal handling; and to adherence to the pertinent animal care standards as set forth by AALAC, USDA, and other relevant regulatory agencies. Supervisors maintain direct communication with research groups to ensure full husbandry and space support for ongoing research within the college of veterinary medicine. |

Minimum Experience/Education | Bachelor's degree and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
