About the Department
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences trains doctors of veterinary medicine and graduate students interested in research-based careers focused on the discovery of new knowledge about animal and human health and disease and using those findings to enhance animal and human health and well-being. Students get in depth knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of disease, and experience in the development of new procedures which enable its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Our faculty are recognized experts in the fields of cell biology and physiology, cancer biology, developmental biology, environmental science and toxicology, genomics, infectious diseases, neuroscience, pharmacology, radiology, and reproductive biology. Our goals are to advance veterinary medical science through innovative basic and applied research, and by mentoring and inspiring students, providing world-class clinical and diagnostic services, and offering the public the latest knowledge through innovative extension and engagement activities.

Our research faculty work in state-of-the-art research facilities including a transgenic mouse facility where graduate students can participate in research projects related to mouse and animal genomics.

A number of graduate programs are available to students interested in working with faculty in the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences. In addition, faculty oversee following clinical sections: anesthesia, clinical nutrition, pharmacology, and the radiology residency.
Essential Job Duties
The Organoidian lab is seeking a skilled and motivated Research Associate to join the lab. In this role you will be responsible for rodent colony management, establishing and maintaining primary cell cultures, performing biochemical analyses such as ELISA, western blotting and RT-qPCR, conducting tissue histology, immunostaining, and fluorescence microscopy. You will also support the study of nutrient handing in primary cell culture and whole animal models using technologies like metabolomics, transcriptomics, and confocal imaging.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Manage a research rodent colony, including breeding, genotyping, and maintaining animal health records.
  • Establish and maintain primary cell cultures from various tissues, including isolation, maintenance, and characterization.
  • Perform biochemical analyses such as ELISA, western blotting and RT-qPCR to quantify protein and gene expression levels.
  • Conduct tissue histology, including tissue processing, sectioning, and staining.
  • Perform immunostaining and fluorescence microscopy to visualize protein localization and cellular morphology.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with three years of independent research experience
Other Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience in managing a research rodent colony, including breeding, genotyping, and maintaining animal health records.
  • Proficiency in establishing and maintaining primary cell cultures.
  • Experience in performing biochemical analyses such as ELISA, western blotting and RT-qPCR.
  • Experience in conducting tissue histology, immunostaining, and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
