What You'll Do:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Accountant II whose responsibilities focus on compiling and analyzing data for the preparation of corporate Federal income tax returns and various state tax returns, and to support the tax provision process. This role requires a high degree of organization and time management skills, as well as a strong foundation in Federal and state income tax compliance.

Essential Duties:

  • Accurate and timely preparation and filing of the Federal and State income tax returns, estimates and extensions.
  • Update tax return workpaper packages for final calculations of non-plant book/tax differences through the independent gathering of information and collection of data from state controllers.
  • Calculates basis adjustments and other inputs to support the calculation of plant book/tax differences.
  • Maintain and update tax attribute schedules and the deferred tax asset accuracy in the ledger.
  • Calculate required amounts for all periodic tax deposits. Assure payment amounts are sufficient to avoid penalties and comply with all filing deadlines.
  • Reconcile payments on file with state to income tax payments made. Work with state agencies to correct any discrepancies.
  • Identify tax issues or areas of concern that may warrant follow-up or review by department leadership and assists in the resolution of the issue.
  • Maintains company-wide tax reporting calendar to ensure tax deadlines are met. Maintains tax files in an organized manner to ensure access to key supporting documentation when required for tax audits or other needs.
  • Providing requested documentation to internal customers by being a point of contact, managing the collection of data/reports and delivering timely information.
  • Support tax leadership's efforts in providing assistance to subsidiaries for indirect tax issues and audits by developing an understanding of the business, performing research and proposing solutions or options to department leadership.

What You'll Bring:
BA/BS Degree Required
MST or CPA (or progress towards obtaining) preferred
3+ years of related experience in the industry or 2+ years at Big 4 considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong foundation in the understanding of corporate income tax
  • Proficient in interpreting and analyzing tax laws
  • Solid knowledge of book and tax accounting rules
  • Experience analyzing, reporting and summarizing data
  • SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
  • PowerPlan Provision / PowerTax knowledge preferred
  • Regulatory tax accounting knowledge preferred
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with cross functional teams in an understandable manner
  • Demonstrated ability to research and summarize issues and communicate impact to company
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with limited supervision
  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents (if applicable).
