Job Description

This position is a cost accounting position in our manufacturing support group located in our facility in Durham, NC. The role is to review and correct any jobs with major cost variances. Individual job productivity and manufacturing variance experience is a plus for the right person in this role. The successful candidate will be tech savvy and organized, as well as detail oriented and accurate.

The successful candidate will maintain general ledger accounts and perform other accounting related activities. Plan, conduct, and participate in analysis of cost assignments, ensuring that all assigned projects adhere to accepted cost accounting standards Be able to prepare and submit monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Work on different reports that need to be updated as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze accounts, records, reports, accounts receivable and payable, journal vouchers, general and subsidiary ledgers, and other accounting documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting problems for the area of responsibility.
  • Prepare monthly financial information utilizing the applicable support systems.
  • Prepare journal entries, coding invoices/vouchers, reconciling the balance sheet, and analyzing variances.
  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records.
  • May perform analyses of cost records to ascertain the distribution of costs for various divisions of management and production.
  • May classify labor, material, and overhead costs to compute unit costs of products or services.
  • Analyze actual costs versus standard costs and prepares reports of variances. Compile cost data for preparation of operating budgets.
  • Prepare other reports and assists in special projects and analysis as required or requested by supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and periodic forecasts.
  • Support internal customers by researching questions and investigating variances in the financial statements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to solve more complex problems by analyzing variables and applying appropriate solutions learned through experience and proficiency in understanding the job.
  • Must be able to recognize anomalies and critical situations and respond appropriately.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact with a variety of internal/external customers and/or coworkers at the level of detail required to resolve issues of moderate complexity.
  • Able to apply strong functional computer knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows, MAC, or other technical tools in completing assignments.
  • May require knowledge of or ability to quickly learn specialized software to complete work assignments.
  • Able to demonstrate continued expertise in the primary tools or applications used in completing daily work assignments.
  • Requires very good communication skills with the ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand.
  • Must be able to proactively listen to others to understand issues and situations.
  • Must be able to clearly articulate business needs to both internal and external customers.

The national pay range for this role is $44400 to $78800/ year. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
