S&ME is seeking a motivated self-starter with a passion for business development and a desire to make a positive impact in the civil engineering industry to join our team in Region 3 (Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga) as a Business Developer.


What You Wil Do:

As a Business Developer, you will lead business development initiatives and collaborate with Marketing and Project Management teams across various sectors, including economic/commercial/industrial development, municipal/governmental projects, and more.

  • Strategy: Partner with local staff to set sales goals and cultivate relationships with key decision-makers to drive business plans.
  • Business Development: Enhance client relationships, win new clients, and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects to boost success rates. Maintain active involvement in professional associations for networking and growth.
  • Marketing: Plan association involvement and advertising strategies, organizing local events to enhance engagement.
  • Proposals / Requests for Qualifications: Assist in developing and submitting proposals and responses to RFQs.
  • Train: Assist in sharing business development skills with client managers and staff.
  • Lead: Prepare and lead monthly Business Development meetings to align efforts.

To excel as a Business Developer with S&ME, you will have a proven track record of success in researching, prospecting, and scheduling face-to-face meetings with key decision-makers and influencers, resulting in qualified opportunities. Current involvement and visibility in professional organizations, industry associations, civic groups, and/or local associations for economic and business growth is a plus.


Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, construction, business, or a related field
  • You have a minimum of 8 years of technical and/or business development experience within the Commercial Real Estate, Architecture, Construction, and Engineering industries
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You have existing relationships with various A/E/C industry Designers, Contractors, and Owners
  • You are willing and able to travel, using personal vehicle for use during company business

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. The successful candidate must meet the requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy, and Reference Check Program.
