The team you'll be part of

The Technologies (TECH) CTO organization holds a critical role in the Nokia Technologies business group by spearheading the development and execution of its technology vision and strategy. Acting as the driving force behind the technological advancements within the business group, the CTO organization is responsible for conducting and directing research and development (R&D) activities and standardization efforts in various areas, including multimedia and Wi-Fi technologies, enabling the exploration of new frontiers and the creation of cutting-edge new solutions. Additionally, it extends its reach beyond the TECH business group steering R&D and standardization efforts funded by TECH in domains including wireless standardization. By actively engaging in these initiatives, the CTO organization ensures that Nokia Technologies remains at the forefront of technological innovation needed for its business. In essence, the CTO unit serves as the "product" engine for Nokia Technologies' business. It plays a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining technology roadmaps for the initiatives that TECH invests in, driving innovation and the creation of valuable technological assets. By consistently charting strategic technology directions, the CTO organization positions Nokia Technologies for long-term growth and success in the competitive market.

To achieve its objectives, the CTO organization maintains a close collaboration with the Nokia Strategy & Technology (S&T) unit and Nokia Bell Labs teams. This collaboration enables the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and insights, fostering an environment for technological breakthroughs and advancements. Moreover, the CTO organization actively engages with the CTOs and technical teams from other Nokia business groups, harnessing collective intelligence and driving cross-functional collaboration throughout the organization. The composition of the CTO organization is a diverse and talented group of technology experts, strategists, and engineers. With a global presence, they leverage their deep understanding of the industry landscape to accelerate value creation from Nokia's patent portfolio and R&D investments. By effectively translating research into actionable innovations, the CTO organization drives results and delivers tangible outcomes that contribute to Nokia Technologies' growth and market success.

We are looking for applications in Finland, Germany, US.


As a Senior Researcher, you will develop novel concepts for Wi-Fi 8, ultra-high reliability task group 802.11bn. You will join a highly skilled and motivated team.

As part of our team, you will:

  • use your drive for innovation, your deep understanding of 802.11 protocols and advanced wireless concepts to create novel and differentiating concepts and promote them in standardization meetings
  • identify and define problems having most impact and rapidly develop and evaluate novel concepts solving these problems
  • other duties as required.

You have:

  • PhD in EE, CS, Physics, or similar, preferred. MS degree and at least 3 years of experience in Wi-Fi standardization will be considered.
  • Good understanding of 802.11 protocols including 802.11be, of Wi-Fi technology and the IEEE 802.11 standardization process.
  • Hands-on simulation skills is a plus.
