Position Summary

We are seeking driven, independent and career-minded Laboratory Research Technicians for an exciting, career-building opportunity at Marsico Lung Institute as we grow our Research Team. The Laboratory Research Technician provides technical assistance towards providing human airway epithelial cells, custom media and cell culture expertise for projects involving cell culture in Marsico Lung Institute (MLI). This role involves novel work on isolating and characterization of small airway epithelial (SAE) cells and Alveolar type II cells, as well as general lab management involving participation in daily operations including ordering, record keeping and compliance with health and safety procedures.

The MLI Tissue Procurement and Cell Culture Core (The Core) provides human airway cells, custom media, human lung tissue, and well-differentiated cell cultures to define the pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis (CF) and other pulmonary disorders, and to understand the functions of the respiratory epithelium. We have helped develop methods to expand cell populations that will facilitate personalizing of CF therapies. We offer consultative support to facilitate the research of members of the Cystic Fibrosis Center and collaborators around the globe as we are a national resource for human cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-CF airway epithelial cells. We employ scientific techniques including: Cell Biology (aseptic technique, cell culture husbandry, FACS); Dissections (human lungs, oral tissues, nasal tissues, animal tissues); Microscopy (immunohistochemistry, widefield and confocal microscopy). Recently, our efforts have been concentrated on Covid-19 studies. The Laboratory Research Technician role is intrinsic to the Core's ongoing efforts and success.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, performing computer data entry and database organization.
* Experience with basic database management and general lab operations.
* Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask and work productively in a multidisciplinary team.
* A strong record of reliability, consistency, and organization as demonstrated in written and computer formats.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:
* Aseptic cell culture skills.
* Handling of tissue (human or animal).
* Ability to operate and care for basic lab equipment.
* Knowledge of standard office equipment.
* Ability to work independently and take initiative.
* Experience mentoring students and training them in processes and procedures for lab safety.
