Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Development's purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Associate Director of Annual Giving, Direct Marketing will design and execute the annual plan for direct mail, email, and solicitation of alumni and friends. They will also assist in engagement center planning with the Director of Annual Giving, Direct Marketing. The Associate Director will contribute and implement an overall outreach strategy to renew, retain, and acquire donors through direct marketing strategies. The Associate Director will serve as a subject matter expert on the direct marketing industry and provide consultation to the schools and units. The Associate Director will supervise the Assistant Director of Annual Giving, Direct Marketing and the Assistant Director of Annual Giving.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledgeable of strategies that will target annual giving prospects, alumni and donors for the schools/units and will focus on the outreach strategy to acquire, renew/retain, reactivate and upgrade donors. Must have the ability to establish strong and positive working relationships within University Development and with colleagues, donors and contacts campus wide and from external vendors. The ability to independently communicate complex topics to both internal and external individuals is essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience using design tools, including Adobe Premier products, is preferred. Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud is preferred. A minimum of three years' experience in Direct Marketing and University experience is preferred.
